Lian Amaris has over a decade of experience as a successful creative communicator. Her work spans the fields of new media, visual arts, games, performance, storytelling, and interactivity. She has 9 publications in books and journals, has presented her original research at 11 international conferences and has participated in 5 residencies and over 30 festivals and exhibitions. For her provocative work, she has been on the front page of The New York Times, been called a “meme goddess” by Forbes, and shown at such venues as The Guggenheim Museum and The San Jose Museum of Art.
Lian has Master’s degrees in Interactive Telecommunications and in Performance Studies, both from NYU, where she focused on transmedia storytelling, immersive environments, and audience experience. She was a full-time professor of Performance Studies and New Media for three years, was a 2011 writing resident with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and spent several years as an editor and copywriter for media theorist Doug Rushkoff.
With a focus on audience and communication in both startup and corporate spheres, Amaris has more recently worked on a range of mobile applications including voter registration, relationships/dating, music discovery, near-field communication, and games. While actively producing original artwork, Amaris serves as Director of Content and Community at Glu Mobile, a gaming company based in SF, and consults on social media strategy for Spiralgroup PR.
